The phrase 'forgive me everyone, I do not accept' has gone viral in memes across different social media platforms, and even Netflix's Facebook page has used this expression to share jokes based on its series, especially Bridgerton and Cobra Kai. Users have also adapted the phrase to various images alluding to this new 'joke' in the digital realm.
One of the most recent memes on social media is 'forgive me everyone, I do not accept', which originated from the spread of a video in which a bride, upon saying this phrase, runs away during the wedding ceremony. The image has been shared on several digital platforms, particularly highlighted on X, and behind it lies a real story involving an alleged death threat.
In September 2025, this new meme emerged related to a viral video on social media, where a bride decides not to marry due to a death threat she received from a leader of an organized crime gang. The bride in question, named Elena, was about to marry Clever Hánuam in a ceremony in Peru but ultimately decided to flee after receiving the threat that if she married, her husband would be killed.
Hánuam mentioned in an interview with the outlet El Popular that the man who threatened her wanted to be Elena's new partner, which led her to escape and attempt to take her own life. According to Hánuam, they managed to convince her not to do it just six blocks from where she was trying to throw herself into the void of a bridge while pleading for them not to kill her husband.
