Rise in Online Shopping During Holiday Season Increases Fraud Risks in Peru

In Peru, the holiday shopping season has seen a 9% increase in fraud cases. Experts provide recommendations for secure online shopping to protect personal and financial data.

The end-of-year shopping season is in full swing, with many people increasing their purchasing power. This surge in online commerce, however, brings greater financial risks like fraud, scams, and unauthorized charges. To protect personal and financial data, it is crucial to shop on well-known and reputable platforms. Experts advise verifying that the payment system is secure, reading privacy policies to avoid automatic subscriptions, and checking the terms of international purchases, including exchange rates and return policies. Using strong passwords and enabling two-factor authentication is essential for account security. Giovanna Cardellicchio, General Manager of APC Experian, warns: "It is fundamental to take all security measures before delivering your personal data on a website or mobile app." She also recommends avoiding entering banking information through links from texts, WhatsApp, or email. It is advised to use trusted devices and secure networks, keep a record of transactions, and contact the store or bank directly with any doubts.
