Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the importance of respecting red lines and fundamental principles in international relations. During his meeting with U.S. President Joe Biden at the 31st Meeting of Economic Leaders of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in Lima, Peru, Xi highlighted that issues such as Taiwan, democracy, human rights, China's political system, and its right to development are fundamental pillars that must not be challenged or crossed.
Additionally, Xi stressed that the principle of one China and the three Sino-U.S. joint communiqués are the political foundation of the bilateral relations between the two countries. These agreements are regarded as indispensable safeguards for the stability of the relationship between China and the U.S., acting as barriers to potential tensions that, although sometimes inevitable, should not compromise the core interests of either party or lead to conflicts or confrontations.
In this regard, Xi Jinping declared that maintaining mutual respect and constructive cooperation between China and the United States is crucial for ensuring stability in the Asia-Pacific region and promoting global economic development. The meeting between both leaders took place in a context of rising tensions in trade and geopolitics, where the importance of dialogue and finding peaceful solutions to the challenges facing both nations was highlighted.
