Xi stressed that only in this way can relations between the two countries achieve significant progress.

In Xi Jinping's words during his meeting with Joe Biden on the sidelines of the 31st APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Lima: "If China and the United States treat each other as rivals or adversaries, engage in ruthless competition or seek to harm one another, it will cloud or even reverse relations."

The Chinese leader highlighted the need to prevent differences and competitive approaches from harming the relationship between the two powers, emphasizing that respectful treatment and mutual cooperation are fundamental for development and stability.
