A couple of Argentinians traveling on vacation to Mexico, specifically to Cancun, experienced a complicated situation at the airport in that country. After arriving in Cancun from Córdoba, Argentina, they were detained by Mexican immigration police.
Upon disembarking from the airplane, they were approached by an officer who requested documentation about their trip, such as round trip tickets, hotel reservation confirmation, among other details. The couple explained that they had part of the accommodations already paid but still needed to pay for a reservation in Playa del Carmen.
Due to the inability to complete the payment for the reservation from the platform where they had booked the hotel, the police gave them a 15-minute ultimatum. When they failed to make the payment, they were informed that they would be escorted back to Argentina.
The Argentinians were taken to an interrogation room where they witnessed tense scenes with people of different nationalities. Despite trying to explain that the woman was five months pregnant and that they only wished to rest, the authorities confiscated their cell phones and passports.
Finally, the couple was moved to a room with other people of various nationalities, where they were provided with mats and aluminum material to cover themselves. They remained in the place for more than six hours before being released.
After this experience, the couple decided to share their ordeal through social media to highlight the situation they went through at Cancun airport. They expressed feeling mistreated and pointed out that the authorities did not allow them to cancel the hotel reservations, which caused them a financial loss on their vacation.
