Riquelme and Zambrano Reunite Before Alianza Lima vs Boca

In the lead-up to the match between Alianza Lima of Peru and Boca in Phase 2 of the Copa Libertadores, Boca's president, Juan Román Riquelme, met with central defender Carlos Zambrano. The Peruvian player was part of Boca between 2020 and 2022 before joining Alianza Lima. Despite his controversial departure, Zambrano maintained a good relationship with Riquelme, as he demonstrated by visiting the hotel where the Argentine team is staying with his son Luciano.

In the meeting, Zambrano's son posted an image on social media showing the central defender alongside Riquelme, accompanied by blue and yellow hearts. Zambrano played 62 official matches with Boca, scoring two goals and providing one assist. Additionally, he received 18 yellow cards and three red cards, and managed to win five titles with the club, including two leagues, two league cups, and one Argentine cup.

In statements prior to the match, Zambrano mentioned feeling affection for his former team and that facing them was a kind of personal revenge. He emphasized the importance of working hard on the field, remembering that in football, there are no friends, just the demand to give your best. Boca will face Alianza Lima this Tuesday at 21:30 (Argentine time) in Phase 2 of the Copa Libertadores.
