US President Joe Biden and China’s Xi Jinping have sent delegations to Peru for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit...
Ambassador Zhou Zhiyuan stated that the focus will be primarily on China’s position and role in improving global governance and promoting economic and trade cooperation.
Relations with Brazil are on the rise following the return to power of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva - after tensions with the predecessor, far-right Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2022).
Lula, meeting with Xi in April 2023 in Beijing, expressed interest in negotiations with China regarding the "New Silk Roads", a major economic project of the Chinese giant.
Xi emphasized in 2023 that relations between them are "key" for global stability and peace, presenting a joint proposal in May for a political resolution between Russia and Ukraine, which so far remains elusive.
After APEC, Xi will travel to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to participate from November 17 to 21 in the G20 leaders' summit and to conduct a state visit in Brazil. Chinese media noted that this visit demonstrates "China's search for solidarity with the Global South" and the confidence that Beijing presents amid complex challenges, including geopolitical conflicts, economic crises, and uncertainties.
"China's relations with Latin America yield results. Both sides raise the banner of common development and cooperation, promoting the coordination of their development strategies and establishing new types of ties from which both sides benefit," highlighted on Tuesday by the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lin Zeya, regarding Xi’s visit, which will see him visit Latin America for the sixth time during his presidency.
According to the representative of the Ministry, China has always been "a true friend and reliable partner, worthy of trust by the countries and peoples of Latin America."
