Attorney General Delia Espinoza de Perú confirmed that President Dina Boluarte is facing a total of 34 complaints against her. Espinoza rejected the president's accusations of a supposed 'soft coup' by the Public Ministry. In an interview with the program Cuarto Poder of América Televisión, Espinoza stated: 'The lady (Boluarte) says she feels overwhelmed, that she is being irrationally pursued, it is false.'
The prosecutor specified that most of the complaints against Boluarte have been submitted by citizens and clarified that the president is not being summoned to testify in all 34 cases, but only in those where it is strictly necessary to clarify the situation through her testimony. Espinoza categorically denied that there is political harassment towards Boluarte and emphasized the importance of distinguishing between political exercise and the exercise of rights.
Regarding Boluarte's statements about a possible coup, Espinoza stated: 'Therefore, if we do not engage in politics, how are we going to promote a coup? What I do make very clear is that we are fulfilling due process.' Boluarte has been summoned several times to Espinoza's office to testify about various cases, including the deceased and injured in the protests of 2022 and 2023, the alleged covering up of Vladimir Cerrón's escape, and the issue of luxury jewelry and watches received from a regional governor, among other matters.
In some of these preliminary investigations, President Boluarte has refused to answer. 'I don't understand, honestly, I don't know how it would be done,' the president expressed in this context.
