Peruvian Foreign Minister Warns Citizens in US

The Peruvian Chancellor, Elmer Schialer, expressed his concern about the situation of Peruvian citizens who are in the United States irregularly. In a recent interview, Schialer warned that those in this condition must be alert, especially after the United States attempted to deport a group of people to Colombia who were subsequently rejected in that country.

Schialer assured that the Peruvian Government is attentive to the situation of Peruvians in the United States and committed to providing them with medical attention and reintegration opportunities in case they are deported to their country of origin. He stated that it is important to preserve the rights of all Peruvians facing this situation and that, so far, the deportations of Peruvians from the United States have not been as massive as in other countries.

According to the chancellor, since August 2022, about 12,000 Peruvians have been deported from the United States. Schialer also stressed that both Peru and the United States have the right not to allow the stay of individuals who have violated the law, whether in terms of migration, offenses, or migration crimes.

The chancellor also pointed out that the same principle should apply when Peru wishes to repatriate individuals who have committed offenses or crimes. In this regard, he emphasized the importance of respecting the established protocols in these processes to ensure due process and the rights of all individuals involved.
