Explosion in Peru nightclub injures 33

At least 33 people were injured in an explosion that occurred early Saturday morning at a nightclub located in the La Libertad region in northern Peru, while authorities investigate if the incident was a presumed attack by criminal gangs, local media reported. According to the private broadcaster Radio Programas del Perú, the explosion took place inside the "Dalí" nightclub, situated in the Víctor Larco Herrera district of the city of Trujillo, leaving among the affected three minors injured. Gerardo Florián, head of the La Libertad Regional Health Management, told local media that several of the injured people were evacuated to the Belén Hospital and the Trujillo Regional Teaching Hospital, where they are receiving evaluation and specialized medical treatment. According to what the Argentine News Agency learned, the causes of the explosion continue to be investigated, so authorities are waiting to confirm if the incident was caused by an explosive device or an electrical failure. That nightlife venue had already been the target of an attack weeks ago, when criminals threw a tear gas bomb during Valentine's Day celebrations, which raised concern among neighbors and authorities about security in the area.
