Colombia leads the Bolivarian Games with 27 golds. Venezuela is second with 25. Ecuador's world champions shine in wrestling as 17 nations compete.


Colombia leads Bolivarian Games in Peru

Colombia, with 27 gold medals, two more than Venezuela, leads the medal table of the XX Bolivarian Games, which are being held this Sunday in the Peruvian cities of Ayacucho and Lima. The Colombian delegation, aiming to repeat the titles won in 2013 in Trujillo (Peru), in 2017 in Santa Marta (Colombia), and in 2022 in Valledupar (Colombia), has a total of 67 medals at the end of the second day of competition, also including 27 silver and 13 bronze. Venezuela, for its part, has reached 61 medals, with 25 gold, 20 silver, and 16 bronze. In wrestling, Ecuadorian Lucía Yépez, an Olympic silver medalist in Paris 2024, and reigning world champion Génesis Reasco, won gold medals in the up to 53 kg and 76 kg categories, respectively. Yépez defeated the Venezuelan Alexa Álvarez in the final of the -53 kg category, who took the silver medal, while the bronze went to the Panamanian Yusneiry Agrazal, who defeated the Bolivian Ana González. In other women's freestyle wrestling categories, the Venezuelan Nathaly Grimán took the gold in the -69 kg category. Génesis Reasco of Ecuador defeated four rivals in a round-robin tournament to win the gold, ahead of the Venezuelan María José Acosta and the Colombian Tatiana Rentería, who took silver and bronze, respectively. Third place is occupied by Ecuador, with 7 gold medals and a total of 29, followed by Chile, which also has 7 gold medals and a total of 22, and Peru, also with 7 gold and a total of 37. The 20th edition of the Bolivarian Games of Ayacucho and Lima 2025 will be held until December 7, with the participation of about 4,000 athletes and 1,600 officials from 17 countries of the Americas competing in 65 disciplines of 44 sports, including 'e-sports'.
