In the Peruvian capital of Lima, it has been announced that one of the most popular beaches will be closed for one day, on Sunday. This is an exceptional measure justified by the authorities as a result of the pollution caused by the waste left by tens of thousands of visitors every weekend. Agua Dulce beach, which stretches for about one kilometer, receives up to 70,000 visitors every weekend during the summer season, which runs from December to March. The temporary closure will allow teams to clean up the sandy coast. “This is a way to raise visitors' awareness about the pollution they cause on the beaches,” said Richard Cortez, mayor of the Chorrillos district in Lima.
