Peruvians participated with enthusiasm and generosity in the GatoFest Summer Edition, an event organized with the goal of collecting food and other supplies for the cats living in the busy Parque Kennedy in Lima. This initiative, framed within the celebration of Cat Day on February 20, aims to ensure the well-being of approximately 250 felines that inhabit the park.

Viviana Meza, Human Development Manager of the Municipality of Miraflores, explained that the park's cats consume around 35 bags of 15-kilo food and 10 cans of pâté monthly. In addition to collecting supplies, the event also aims to promote the adoption of cats looking for a happy home.

"Another objective of being at this Gato Fest is that we have so many kittens looking for homes that we want people to come see if they can take them home and give them a happy home," Meza mentioned. She highlighted the importance of these animals finding a place to receive attention, care, and proper nutrition.

In Parque Kennedy, several associations take care of the cats that are abandoned there and facilitate their adoption. Although many people come to the park to interact with the felines, the ultimate goal is to ensure they find a loving and responsible home.

To guarantee the long-term well-being of the cats, the goal has been set to collect more than 2.5 tons of food, which will be distributed in the coming months. This effort seeks to ensure that the cats of Parque Kennedy have their nutritional needs consistently met.

In the context of Cat Day, Meza emphasized the importance of providing an adequate quality of life to pets, including sterilization, vaccination, and necessary medical care. She also reminded that having a pet implies taking on family responsibility and giving them the attention they deserve.

In addition to collecting food, the GatoFest Summer Edition offers visitors the opportunity to enjoy various activities, such as summer-themed photo sessions, raffles for watercolor portraits, and the chance to meet iconic feline characters such as Garfield and Naranjete.
